Insulated Glass Unit

By November 7, 2025March 3rd, 2026No Comments

Insulated glass units (IGUs), commonly known as double glazing (or vetrocamera), are a specific type of glass composed of two or more panes coupled together using an aluminum spacer frame. This frame maintains a precise distance—typically between 6 mm and 15 mm—creating an internal air gap that is fundamental for both thermal and acoustic insulation.

Inside this gap, dry air or noble gases such as Argon or Krypton can be injected. These gases have a lower thermal conductivity coefficient than standard air, significantly enhancing the thermal insulation performance of the unit.

The structure of the panes forming the insulated glass is held together by a specialized adhesive applied to the frame before the entire unit is pressed using precision machinery to create a hermetically sealed air chamber. Finally, a dual-component sealant is applied around the edges to permanently seal the unit, maximizing the energy efficiency and soundproofing of the windows.

Active since 1989 in the design, production, and installation of architectural and structural glass, Vetreria Re offers a vast selection of safety and thermal insulating glass, including: Double and triple glazing (IGUs), Magnetron coated glass (Low-E), Reflective and solar control glass, Laminated or toughened safety glass, Tempered structural glass.
