To prevent acts of vandalism or break-in attempts at home or in the workplace, it is essential to protect the traditionally most vulnerable areas, namely opening points such as doors and windows that allow entry and exit while ensuring air exchange. Today, security is an increasingly important value, inspiring a growing number of people in the choice of the constituent elements of their home or workplace.
But what are the measures that allow for an increase in the value of home security? In other words, what can be done to make one’s home or workplace safer?
Vetreria Re: Over 20 Years of Experience in the Safety Crystal Sector
To guarantee the highest levels of security, technology now offers a wide range of solutions. These include electronics—with the possibility of installing burglar alarms and closed-circuit cameras, now more affordable thanks to practical webcams for remote monitoring—and technical solutions, with a vast choice of armored frames and security locks, which must be paired with safety crystals capable of offering high resistance to burglary and break-in attempts. Indeed, it is well known that for ill-intentioned individuals, the time factor plays a decisive role: the common thief is not so much attracted by the challenge as by an easy win. Therefore, if they fail to breach home security within a few minutes, they are generally led to desist.
Vetreria Re, active in the design and production of safety crystals since 1989, offers its customers a wide range of safety crystals, including tempered, laminated, shatterproof, anti-intrusion, accident-prevention, armored, and bonded safety crystals. In particular, bonded safety crystals consist of two glass panes glued together by a tear-resistant film which, in case of breakage, prevents the dispersion of glass fragments, making it more difficult to break through the pane.
The advantages offered by bonded safety glass include its ability to reduce the risk of injury if the pane breaks (passive safety) and to increase the acoustic insulation capacity of fixtures and frames. When talking about security, one tends to think first of the characteristics of the frames and the hardware of doors and windows, but to make the work even harder for intruders, it is essential not to overlook the safety of the crystals, choosing bonded or laminated safety glass capable of preventing the pane from being smashed. Furthermore, bonded safety glass reduces the risk of injury in the event of a fracture while significantly increasing the acoustic insulation value provided.
Bonded Safety Crystals: How Are They Made?
How is a bonded safety crystal made? From a technical perspective, bonded safety glass consists of two glass panes of varying thicknesses, glued together by a plastic film (PVB). In the event of a fracture, this film is capable of holding the glass fragments together, avoiding possible injury to people or damage to property. The most common thickness for the films is between 0.38 mm and 0.76 mm. A thickness of 0.38 mm is sufficient to ensure basic protection against injuries, while if greater shatterproof and fall-protection security is required, a thickness of 0.50 mm or 0.76 mm is recommended. Another advantage of the PVB film is its ability to make breaking through the pane more difficult, meaning these glasses can also be used as fall-protection glass.
Bonded safety glasses are able to guarantee excellent levels of protection against smashing and falling, while also protecting people and property from the risk of injuries due to exploding glass shards. The expert professional staff collaborating with Vetreria Re, active for over 20 years in the design, creation, and installation of safety glass, is able to propose the most suitable solutions to protect doors and windows from break-in attempts. We offer a wide choice of armored, tempered, laminated, bonded, anti-intrusion, accident-prevention, and shatterproof safety crystals suitable for the creation of shop windows, railings, flooring, museum display cases, and full-height glazing. Every installation is tailored to ensure a high-quality finish, maximum comfort, and superior acoustic silence.
