Since 1989, Vetreria Re has been active in the design and production of architectural and urban works in structural glass, as well as artistic glazing, and safety glass elements such as shower enclosures, canopies, parapets, and much more. Since these projects must strictly adhere to safety criteria established by current regulations (for further legal details, see the pages dedicated to safety glass and acoustic glass), it is essential to use only products that do not pose a threat to people’s safety, such as laminated glass (or paired glass) and tempered glass.
Safety Above All Else
In addition to passive safety, some applications require high levels of active security, providing protection against break-in attempts, forced entry, or vandalism, reaching products like bulletproof glass and explosion-proof glass installed to ensure high protection against armed robbery or acts of terrorism. Anti-shatter glass, in particular, guarantees high security standards, especially for commercial and professional buildings. Designed, assembled, and installed to offer effective resistance against impact and forced entry, these safety glass units protect people and property from damage caused by vandalism and intrusion.
To create anti-shatter security glazing, laminated glass is generally used—composed of two or more layers of glass bonded together by an adhesive plastic interlayer made of PVB (polyvinyl butyral). The resistance level, and thus the protection provided by the anti-shatter glass, varies based on the number and thickness of the glass sheets and the interlayers. These factors define the different performance levels of the anti-shatter glass.
Depending on the protection needs, it is possible to choose the specific type of anti-shatter glass required. Vetreria Re offers diverse solutions regarding safety, aesthetics, and functionality. From armored glass to tempered glass, from anti-shatter to bulletproof glass, from fire-rated and fire-resistant glass to magnetron-coated glass, from walkable glass for flooring to structural glass for sliding, revolving, or swing doors, and from artistic panels to glass partitions—there is no application that Vetreria Re, with over twenty years of industry experience, cannot realize.
Categories of Anti-Shatter Glass
Based on the combination, number, and thickness of the glass panes and plastic interlayers, anti-shatter glass is divided into several security categories. Different protection factors identify safety glass, anti-crime glass, or acoustic insulation (soundproof) glass. Anti-shatter glass, specifically, is ideal for shop windows and glass partitions, as well as for isolated residences requiring protection against break-in attempts.
Furthermore, laminated glass ensures a reduction in accidents within domestic, workplace, urban, or commercial environments. The specific treatment glass undergoes is designed to strengthen it and ensure that, even in the event of breakage, it does not produce sharp, dangerous shards. When struck, laminated glass breaks but does not crumble: the PVB adhesive film keeps the structure cohesive, preventing the dispersal of fragments and making penetration difficult even in case of forced entry—protecting vulnerable groups like children and the elderly. Safety laminated glass should be used as standard in all situations where there are risks to human safety.
Durable and secure, anti-shatter glass protects both people and assets, discouraging theft or robbery. Suitable for installation in shops, public offices, banks, jewelry stores, private homes, and anywhere high protection against vandalism is required, anti-shatter glass ensures optimal security levels. Suitable for safety, anti-crime, and anti-robbery applications, these units also guarantee excellent thermal and acoustic insulation.
