Argon Filled Insulated Glass

When you consider that windows can account for up to 22% of thermal energy loss in homes—a figure that rises to 30-40% in buildings from the 1970s—it becomes clear why replacing traditional single-pane glass is essential. Upgrading to low-emissivity glass with magnetron coatings or insulating units with double or triple glazing significantly reduces heat dissipation, directly lowering heating and cooling costs.

The Insulating Glass Units of Vetreria Re

Low-emissivity double glazing consists of architectural elements designed to increase thermal insulation. Their structure involves coupling two or more parallel glass panes separated by a gap. Using specialized aluminum spacers creates an airtight chamber that can be filled with dry air to prevent moisture or with noble gases to maximize the glass’s thermal performance and ensure total domestic comfort.

Specifically, Vetreria Re offers its international clientele insulating glass units filled with Argon gas instead of simple air. These double or triple-glazed units are assembled with aluminum frames containing desiccants or silica to absorb internal moisture. This configuration ensures excellent levels of acoustic silence and thermal insulation, resulting in annual energy savings exceeding 30%. The performance depends on the number of chambers, the application of insulating films, the sealing system, and the gas used, with noble gases providing a superior technical finish due to their low thermal conductivity.

The Gases Used

Argon is the most widely used gas due to its excellent price-performance ratio, while Krypton is used for more specialized requirements. For insulating glass, a mixture of 90% Argon and 10% air is typically injected into the gap to lower the $U_g$ value. This improves the thermal transmittance resistance of the unit without affecting its light transmission properties.

The insulating glass produced and installed by Vetreria Re—composed of multiple panes joined by aluminum spacers—significantly increases the energy efficiency of any building. Due to its low thermal conductivity, Argon effectively reduces heat loss through the glass. By replacing dry air with these high-performance gases and optimizing the distance between the panes, we achieve even lower heat transfer values and a more refined, durable finish.
