As explained in detail in the section dedicated to the production techniques of frosted glass, it is not only possible to apply frosting on one or both sides of the glass, but you can also achieve very special decorative effects capable of giving the furnishing elements a unique and impactful appearance.

Glass Decoration: Sandblasting, Micro-Milling, or Acid Etching

The decoration of frosted glass can be carried out using the sandblasting technique or through engraving with carborundum micro-cutters or tungsten wheels, while it is more complex to create patterned frosted glass using the hydrochloric acid immersion technique. Sandblasting is ideal for creating relief decorations and contrasts between smooth and opaque surfaces on even large-scale glazings: it is sufficient to direct the jet of silica sand onto the points where the decoration is desired to obtain a contrast between smooth and frosted, also creating engravings of varying depths. The sandblasting method therefore allows for the creation of relief designs as well as frosted glass surfaces.

The micro-milling engraving technique is instead the one that allows for smaller and more precise designs, but it requires great experience, a steady hand, precision, and control over the tool. Not particularly suitable for frosting large surfaces, engraving with wheels and micro-cutters is instead perfect for creating particularly complex decorations and thin lines on one or both sides of the glass, ensuring a high-quality technical finish.

The acid etching method also allows for the creation of decorations on frosted glass: it is sufficient to prepare a stencil that reproduces the design to be transferred onto the glass surface and then cover it with the acidic solution in a gelatinous state. In this case, it is necessary to carefully dose the percentage of hydrochloric acid and the exposure times, as these parameters will determine the depth of the surface erosion of the frosted glass.

Choose the Elegance of Glass for Your Environments

Extremely elegant and capable of giving a unique and original appearance to private and residential environments as well as public venues, professional studios, shops, and offices, frosted glass—on one side, both sides, or as a decoration—allows for the creation of refined sliding or hinged interior doors, original shower boxes, bright partitions or parapets, crystal tops for tables, cabinets, shelves, screens, canopies, and much more. Suitable for the bathroom as much as the kitchen, the bedroom, or the dining room, as well as meeting rooms or waiting rooms in the office, frosted glass is an original and chic furnishing element. It is resistant, easy to maintain, and designed to last over time without being affected by passing trends, while providing excellent acoustic silence and household comfort.
